We had the opportunity to visit Martin's Cove. Cory had to go up there for some work, and we decided to tag along and make it a little vacation. It is in the middle of nowhere, which was really nice to just get away with hardly ever cell phone service. We could just be together as a family, and just spend some much needed time together after such a busy summer!
They have some really neat things there for the kids to do. They had a blacksmith shop, where the couple missionaries made them some horseshoe nail rings, and then they had a movie, and handcarts that the kids could pull. They also had this little booklet, and in it there was a place to stamp for every different building that you went to. If you got a stamp in all of the spots in your book, they gave you a necklace that had a hancart stamped on it. They said that they were made out of hancarts that had been left up there. The girls really enjoyed getting their necklace, and Izabelle still wears hers all the time!
They had a Handcart Park that you could load your kids up in a handcart and pull them around the little park. There were plaques that you could read about the pioneers as they came across.
This next picture totally shows the personality of Cory, he is such a goofball all the time, and I never know when to take him seriously!
They also had these little tiny handcarts that even Izabelle could pull, they thought they were pretty cool to be able to pull their own!
You could also take a real trek and walk up to the Cove where the pioneers took shelter, but it was way to much for the girls, so we just had the couple missionaries take us up there on the little ATV things that they had up there. Cory and I laughed the entire time we were on our way up there, because the little missionary would get on the walkie talkie, and the funniest things over them, to see if the trail was clear for them to go up or not!
When we got up there they told us some stories of the pioneers, and there was such a sweet and calming feeling being up there. It was a really neat and spiritual experience!
We stayed in this little town called Saratoga, WY. Right in the middle of town in front of the houses, we found these deer, I think we drove past them quite a few times, the girls liked seeing them that close!
In Saratoga, there was a fish hatchery, and we had some time to waste before we headed home, so we decided to visit it, and the girls had never been to one. They had a lot of fun looking at all the different sizes of fish!
